TRAFFIC LIGHTS
CHANGE AT BANK CORNER
Next Monday morning a change in the system of traffic lights at the Bank of New Zealand corner will be made. At present there are three sets of lights, but a trial is to be made of two cycles only, the signals in Willis Street and Customhouse Quay being so arranged that both will show red (or other colour) together.' This will enable traffic delays to be considerably reduced, but it will necessitate caution on the part of drivers, for traffic lines will cross under this system (which they do not do under tho three signal point system), but in view of the satisfactory working of a similar arrangement at the Bouleott Street corner a trial is considered well worth while.
"I am afraid wo would not get many applicants if wo advertised the vacancy in the way suggested," said a member of the Auckland Education Board at a meeting this week when a request was received from a country school for a "middle-aged lady" with good teaching ability (reports the "New Zealand Herald"). "No, we shall have to bo a little more tactful," said another menib.e,r. It was decided to advertise the vacancy in more general terms.' •
