GOLFERS AND FOOTBALL
The quarterly meeting of the Hutt Park Committee was held last night. The chairman (Mr. A. AValker) presided, and there were also present Messrs. A. J. Hpbbs, D. S. Patrick, E. T. E. Hogg, R. W. Toomath, W.; Q. Meldrum, J. W. Longman, and, the acting-secretary (Mr H. Firth). -: , '■ ,
The Petone Borough Council wrote suggesting that the ■ entrance to the park gates in-Park Road should be altered to allow, cars to approach at a less acute angle, and so- minimise the risk to pedestrians .and motorists. It was left to the Executive Committee to report on the matter to the next meeting. • Inquiries were made in a letter from the Waiwetu Golf Club as to whether some arrangement.could be. made whereby golf players would not be subject to interference during the "playing of football matches. The drib took a serious view of the encroachment of the public,'. and stated that it Was due only to the exercise of extreme caution by club members that more serious accidents had not<.occurred The committee's reply asked tho club to adhere to the arrangement made between the-two bodies two years ago, whereby the golf club was to take over the. football grounds on the far side of the park The Wellington Rugby . Union was granted the use of four grounds on the park, and one ground was allocated to the Rugby League.
The executive committee was empowered to proceed with the work of housinc under one roof, of shower baths, coppers', and gas rings for the use of motor campers' after the honorary engineer has been consulted.
The caretaker's proposal to level part of the northern, end of the park is to be referred to the Waiwetu Golf Club and proceeded with if the club has no objection.
