VALUABLE MEMENTOES
M.GC. AND BRADMAN BATS
"When Don Bradman was in Wellington with the Australian touring cricketers he handed to the- Smith Family his actual playing bat, autographed by the members of the Australian team, to be disposed of to raise funds for the relief of distressed cricketers.
The Smith Family has now been advised by Mr. P. F. Warner, joint manager of the M.C.C. touring team, that the English cricketers have agreed to give a similar autographed bat for the same purpose.
With the 'Sanction of the New Zealand Cricket Council the Smith Family has made arrangements to raffle both these bats, and a campaign is now being launched throughout the Dominion for the sale,of tickets. The bats will be drawn separately by ballot, so that each ticket holder has two chances. The funds raised will be used to , relieve the needs of cricketers who have fallen on evil times and will be administered by the Smith Family as requisitioned by the New Zealand Cricket Council.
At the present time many cricketers who were prominent on the playing field some years ago are in urgent need, and it is lioped that the sporting fraternity generally will assist to raise a substantial fund by means of the raffle of these two valuable mementoes, ' and thus enable relief to be administered where it is so urgently needed. ■
