NEED FOR VIGILANCE.
"We have much work ahead of us," said the vpresident ;6f the Auckland Importers' Association, in his address at the annual meeting of members. Discussing the raising of the exchange rate, Mr. Thomson said there was still need to be watchful. They had information that an unsuccessful attempt was made recently in Australia to further inflate their .exchange, but. that -it was opposed by the Government. In this Dominion the position differed; and should a low value in prices continue there was no surety that a similar attempt would not be successful at a future date.
Taking Australia as a whole, the end of 1932 showed, an improvement in the tone of business, a better financial position, and greater confidence in the future." said Mr. T. E. Barr Smith, of Elder, Smith, and Co., Ltd., Adelaide, to shareholders in the company.
