ASTRONOMICAL SOCIETY

The annual meeting of the New Zealand Astronomical Society takes place at the Dominion Observatory this evening.

The annual report which will be submitted for adoption shows that the membership of-the society has remained at about the same figure as for the previous year. The increase in the number of publications added to the library had necessitated the building of a library-room, and this now provides ample accommodation for tho society's books. The collection of lantern slides published by the Royal' Astronomical Society continues, to grow. The collection, now one of the finest in tho Dominion, is being made good use of by members.

Reference is made in the report to various astronomical activities during the year, and particularly to the discovery of a comet by Mr. M. Geddes, the report adding that it is hoped that his success will inspire members of tho Comet Section of the society.
