ORCHESTRA AUXILIARY
PROGRAMME DISCUSSED
The programme for the coming year was discussed by the "Women's Auxiliary of the "Wellington Symphony Orchestra at a meeting held last evening at the Pioneer Club, and officers were elected.
Mrs. Knox Gilmer (president) in praising the splendid work already done by the orchestra, which had brought music into so many lives, paid special tribute to Mr. de Mauny, who had generously refused to accept any fee as conductor during last year. The same applied to Mr. E. Dawson, who had acted as secretary. Mrs. Knox Gilmer spoke of the high standard of the works performed by the orchestra, and referred to the satisfactory position of the balance-sheet; £319 Us Gd had been paid to aid the professional members of the orchestra. She hoped that this year both the conductor and the secretary would receive some recognition for their work.
The forthcoming concert, for which Mr. and Mrs. Martin Harvey (of the Dame Sybil Thorndike Company) had offered their services, was discussed by the meeting, and it was agreed that an endeavour bo made to increase the membership. Concerts this year will be given in May, August, and November. The election of officers resulted, as follows: —President, Mrs. Knox Gilmer; vice-presidents, Lady Buckleton and Lady Myers; hon. secretary and treasurer, Miss Constance Morice. Mrs. Lewis resigned her position as assistant secretary, and was appointed a member of the auxiliary. Votes of thanks were accorded to Mrs. Knox Gilmer, to the Pioneer Club for the use of the room, to Miss Morice, and to the Press.
