MORE FOR SYDNEY

COUNTERPLAY. INCLUDED

(Special to "The Evening Posi.")

CHRISTCHTJItCH, This Day. ■ The two-year-old Counterplay (Winning Hit —Counterscarp) and the maiden three-year-old Manchu . (Tea Tray—Halina), both from S. Barr's Bicearton stable, left last evening for Wellington on their way to Sydney, where the pair will bo raced during the autumn. a

".Rebel Song is an acceptor for the Silvcrstream Handicap at Trentham on Friday, but it is practically certain that ho will forfeit this engagement and be started in the St. Leger. He is a smart galloper and a winner at a mile, but he may not be sufficiently seasoned yet for a mile and threequarters. So far no jockey has been secured, but in the event of Importance's not going L. J. Ellis will have the mount.

Socket will be another St. Leger

starter from the Cutts brothers' team. He lacks brilliance, but can stay, and this will help him materially. Tout le Mond, who left last evening for Trentham, is in capital condition. His owner (Dr. M. G. Louisson) is very sanguine about his' St. Leger prospects, but in other quarters Eocket is expected to stay on better.

Shatter looks better now than ever he did previously. He left last evening for Trentham, where it is expected he will race well.

Although three of Sir Charles Clifford's horses have been nominated for the Manawatu Meeting, it is probable that only Cricket Bat and Fracas will make the trip to Awapuni, where L. J. Ellis will do the riding. Present' arrangements are that Zeebrugge will return home after racing at Trentham, where he looks the best of the Cutts brothers' team for the first day, though the others should all run prominently.

Great Star, Grand Eeview, aiid other members of J. H. Prosser's team are now being sent along in strong work after a comparatively quiet time for a few weeks. Plans for the proposed Sydney campaign have not been completed, pending news of the. weight allotted Great Star in the Sydney Cup, which was not cabled. If the trip is undertaken E. E. Coveny may go across to do the riding.
