FALSE PRETENCES
; For obtaining credit by false pretences, Henry Hogg was fine.d £2 by Mr. J. Miller, S.M., in the Lower- Hutt Magistrate's Court on Wednesday. He was allowed a fortnight in which to pay. Sergeant J. W._ McHolm said that the defendant, who had been in a relief camp, told a service car driver that he would pay his fare from Eongotea to Wellington, 15s, when he h#d cashed a cheque on his arrival in the city. On arrival in uelhngton the accused went into the Hotel Cecil to cash the cheque, but when inside the hotel he bolted. Later the" police caught him and the 15s had been ißptud; sL ■ .. . *
