CALEDONIAN EVENING
.The anniversary of. the birth Of Robert Burns was celebrated by members and .friends of the Caledonian".Society! on Saturday evening. 'There was ■ a large attendance, the Oddfellows' HaU being filled to capacity...." -'The first "part- of.the evening took the form--of:; an-aU-Scottish-con-cert. :' -Chief G. Lavchlan,in opening the proceedings, extended a welcome.to. those present, and said he hoped that, the day was hot-far distant-when there would be an amalgamation of all the Scottish societies m Wellington; it would then be necessary to engage the Town Hall for the celebrations in connection with Robert -Burns. The concert was opened with a selection rendered, by the Bipe -Band. Artists who contributed' to the" programme were Mr. J. Catheart/song; Miss. Mans Windsor, song; Mrs. C. Pengelley, song; Miss Phyllis. Martin, song; Mr: K. Macauley, song; Miss Flora MeKenzie, song; and Mr. J.-Lothian, recitation. Each performer was called upon to give one, and, in some cases, two encores. - : " -: ■■--' . The attention of the audience was held from the beginning to "end by an address on. Robert Burns, , delivered by Mr. O N. Gillespie: The speaker' treated his subject m an -interesting and original way, and at the" conclusion of his address was accorded -a.-..hearty vote .of thanks. _cli «. Andrews Cross, was piped in by a piper "in full kit. .The address "To a Haggis, was rendered by Mr. "J. Lothian, bupper, followed by dancing, concluded a very pleasant evening"s enjoyment.
