SUGAR PRICES ADVANCE. ,
An increase of 10s a ton in the wholeprice of sugar has been announced by the Colonial Sugar Refining Company, Ltd. The new scale of prices is as follows:— Brewers' crystals, £22 10s a ton; No. 1 coarse grain, £21 15s; No. IA, fine grain, !£2l; No. 2, soft, £20 10s; No. 3, yellow ration, £19 10s; caster sugar, £1 4s 3d per cwt; invert sugar, £19 a ton. The former scale of prices was introduced on IBth October last, when a decrease of 5s a ton was made. Prior to that change a decrease of 10s a ton had become operative on Ist October, counteracting an increase of 10s announced on 12th August. There had been a previous increase of £1 on Ist July, following a reduction of 10s on 14th May. On 15th April last year there was a reduction of £1 on prices which had ruled since 21st September, 1931, when there was an increase of £5 a ton following a rise in Customs duty, imposed on 30tU July of that year.
