CONSPIRACY IN INDIA
SENTENCES IMPOSED

. ' CALCUTTA, 16th January. After a trial lasting three years and costing tho, Government £120,000, twenty-eight men, including three: British, were sentenced.at Beerut for conspiracy to wage war against the King. Over three hundred witnesses wera examined in the trial,,which disclosed that some of the accused, with the aid of large sums of money from Russia, fomented strikes among Indian .railway, and jute mill workers, .which were intended to be the preliminary to the establishment of a-movement to overthrow the- Government. One man was sentenced to life transportation and five to twelve years. The other sentence! range from ten down to three years.
