MT. COOK CLIMBED
SECOND ASCENT THIS SEASON ;... /■■■■■ ;
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) TIMARU, Thin "Day. The second successful ascent ii Mount Cook (12,349 ft) this season was accomplished last week by two parties, one conwsting of Guide V. Williams and. Mr. A. Hsyeß (Hakataramea), the other compriemg Messrs. A, Dewar (West Coast), P. Chapman (Timaru), and M. McClymOnt (Dunedin). The actual glacial conditions were good, but the rocks were plastered with ice, the parties spending a considerable time dodging showers of ice. The trip over the rocks, usually accomplished in one hour, took five hours. The whole trip took twenty-one hours. The previous ascent this s»ason was made by Miss Irvine :(South Canterbury) with Guide M., Bowie. They had good conditions throughout- > Messrs. fiewar and MeClymont 'also made, other good climbs.
