LATE SPORTING

ON TRENTHAM TRACKS

THIS MORNING'S GALLOPS

TRIALS DONE IN RAIN

(By 'B'angatira.")

After a long spell of fiae .weather there was an unexpected change overnight, and heavy rain began to fall at Trentham in the early hours of this morning, and it continued to come down heavily all through the galloping hours. It began to clear again after the work had been done, but it was still threatening for more rain. A few gallops were, attempted early on the plough, but the going was too heavy for fast work> and "subsequent galloping was done on. the inside of the trial grass,; which, was fast, but inclined to be slippery on the turns. On the plough, Autopay (G. Gunn), picked up by Maypay (I. Kohlofc) for the .last two furlongs, ran half a mile in 51 4-ssec, beating his companion home by a. good length. - The only other gallops on the plough were a seven furlongs by Cape Fair (K. G. Bush) and Capetown (W. E. Shand) in lmin 37 3-ssec, the last halfmile in 57sec, and a similar trial by Teastream (Smith), who stopped to., a walk "in registering lmin 42sec. On the course proper, Pegged Exchange (S, Wilson) came down from the halfrmile barrier in 49see, and Dole (E. Morris) did hia customary easy sir furlongs, taking lmin lOsee from the five furlongs barrier. Earlier Guarantee (J. Gunn) ran half a. mile' on the two-year-old track, but was not timed. On the ' grass, Might (Wilson) ■• and Clangor (J. K. ..Bobertsori) ran. five furlongs in lmin 4sec, doing the last half-mile in 50 4-ssec. B. H. Morris rides the former and 'S. Anderson the latter on Thursday. Courtyard (J. D. Martin), whdse mission is the Douro.Cup on the second day, slipped over half a mile attractively in SOsec. Eminent (Martin) later ran the same distance in 50 3-5 sec. Flower (Bobertson) was again a length too good for Purse (Wilson) over six furlongs in lmin 18sec, the final half-mile in 52sec; H. B. Bobinson has been engaged for Purse'in the Apprentices ' Plate. Golden Horn (Gunn) disposed of Cape of Good Hope (Shand) by a couple of lengths over seven furlongs in lmin 31 3-ssec, the final half-mile in 53 l-ssec. Golden Horn has been galloping well for some time past, but slow beginnings have prevented him from showing up in any of his races/yet. . The Quorn (P. Atkins) stretched out in his usual attractive style to step over three furlongs in the gopd time of 36sec. His stablemates, Tout le Mond (Atkins) and Gay Crest (A. Jonkins), ran a mile in lmin 43 2-ssec, the last, seven furlongs in lmin 29 1-tfsee, and the last half-mile in 52sec, Tout le Mond again winning the trial by a short head, quite a pleasing performance.

Joie de Val (Gucn), who is not racing on the first day, beat My Own (Wilson) comfortably by a length at the; end of a round, the last mile taking lmin 48 2-ssee, and the last halfinile sosec. It would not look as if My Own is near' back to her old form yet.

Lyrical (6. F. Dick) finished a length and a half in front of Palace (Jenkins) after running six furlongs in lmin 20se«, the last half-mile in 54 1-5 sec. Palace, a long strider, was not £t home on the slippery corners. Dick rides Lyrical in the Cup, also Dover Patrol and Posy in their races. Lovecourfc (G. Itidgway) was half a length ahead of the Shambles—Degage gelding (Wilson) at the end of six furlongs in lmin 19 4-ssee, the final halfmile in 53 4-ssec. Money Mint sprinted half a mile, but was not timed. Good Hunting (A. Leach) was a length behind Aiguille (Atkins) when thej jumped away from the half-mile, but he finished half a length in front in the good time of 49 S-osee, Shortly afterwards Broken Bule (Robinson) slipped over the same distance in 49 4-ssee. This completed the fast galloping, but several visiting trainers had their horses out doing useful pacing on the plough or sarid, and other Trenthanitrained horses also did serviceable pacing. . .-■■•, Among the visitors noticed working were K. Barlow's pair, Refresher and Glenvane, J. O'Neill's pair, Orapai and Glowlight, J. Cameron's Gold Trail, A. O 'Neill 's two two-year-olds, Diatomous and Bon Eapide (stablemates of Broken Rule), W. H. Wilson's Lordly Knight, H. S. Greene's Tahoma, Chrysology (in charge of J. H. Jefferd, who also has Courtyard), and F. J. McKay's Ruling Light and Shining Gold (who galloped seven furlongs yesterday). * Glenvane will bo ridden in the Apprentices ' Plate by G-. J. Jones, and Refresher in the Cup by G. W. Duncan. B. H. Morris, .in addition to other announced engagements, will be on Orapai and Tahoma. Duncan will also be on Glowlight, and Shand will be on. Milnrow1. - '

The only scratching announced for the meeting up till 2.30 p.m. to-day was Nightmare (for all engagements).
