Watkins, of Hastings, and Mrs, Walker, Waimarie, iv the third round of the open singles championship proved most interesting, After winning the first game comparatively easily, Mrs. Watkins : failed in the second game, and owing to very fine play on the part of her opponent, • Mrs. Watkins succeeded iv winning the third game by only two points. Mrs. Walker's long shooting was a feature of the game, and this player promises to be heard of in future championships. The handicap singles championships, By grade, has now reached its final stages, and the match' between the Rev. Mr. Tye . and Miss Beal should produce some good croquet.
The game between Mrs. Scandrett and Mrs. Pitcaithly in the first round of the ladies' championship was very interesting. Both contestants were shooting well: Mrs. Piteaithly made a good break to one back. . When Mrs. Scandrett got in she made four backs, pegged her opponent's blarck ball out, and retired to the line. Blue tried position when Mrs. Scandrett made from four -back rover, and pegged out. The resulting score was 26-25.
• The game in the championship doubles between Mesdames Scandrett and Veitch and Mesdames Gambrill and Pitcaithly produced good croquet. Mrs. Gambrill made an all-round break, going to- rover. The opponents not butting in, Mrs. Pitcaithly picking up a long shot, with in and out play, won 26-4. ' . ; A GOOD GAME. The- best game of the. day was that played by Mesdames Clark and Tingey against Mrs. Caldow and Mr. E. Veiteh.
