Silver Scorn and Berate were out doing easy work again on the Riccarton track on Thursday morning. The acceptance of Fiji for the Wellington Cup prevents his trainer, L. G. Morris, accepting the ride on Concentrate, who is in another stable, and B. 11. Morris, who was on Concentrate when he won the Cup three years ago, is to take the ride again. The meeting of. importance in the Dominion next week is the Wellington Racing Club's Summer Meeting, which will be held on Thursday, Saturday, and Monday week (Anniversary Day). The Vincent Jockey Club's Annual Meeting will be concluded on Monday, and the Bay of Islands Eating Club's Annual Meeting aud the Wairio Jockey Club's Annual Meeting will be held on Saturday. Trotting next week will be conducted by the Timaru Trotting Club on Saturday. There are trotting events also on tiie programmes at Vincent and Wairio. No wonder the Waipapakauri Racing Club finds it hard to make a success of its meetings. They are a sporting lot in the neighbourhood, but the club's course is awkwardly situated at the foot of the Ninety Mile Beach, 114 miles north by road from Whangarei, in all 244 miles from Auckland! Man o' War, the noted American racehorse and sire, was represented by a winner in England recently. This was Nemi, whose dam, Messaline, was sent to America from England by Sir- Victor Sassoon to be mated with Man o' War. Colonel Cygiuis, Mr. J. M. Samson's imported Irish horse, has begun work again, and he was out doing eafiy pacing at Wingatui this week. According to '•Sentinel" this son of Cygnus is more like Martian in type and conformation than any other horse that has been seen out in the Dominion since his day.
