FLOWER SHOWS

Intending exhibitors at the National Flower Show on Thursday and Friday, 26th and 27th January, are again reminded that all entries close definitely on Thursday next. Entries will be accepted •by Messrs. A. J. Nicholls, Box 19, Lower Hutt; J. G. MacKenzie, Town Hall, or G. S. Nicoll, secretary, Box 1237, 23, Waring Taylor street. ' Entries already received for the large competitive display classes include—Loder Cup, for native plants (300 sq ft); trade, carnations, dahlias (100 sq ft); gladioli (50 sq ft); hydrangeas (100 sq ft); and children's gladioli competition. The following have notified special exhibits:—Citrus (600 sq ft, growing trees and fruit); A.' Buxton (500 sq ft, landscape gardening); Evans and Sawyer, (alpines and, perennials); F. Cooper, Ltd. (100 sq ft, seedsmen's); E. Anstis and Son (hydrangeas, polyantha, roses, etc.); J. S. Dallenger, Rasmussen's, Ltd. (tubs, pot plants, cut flowers); R. H. Johnston (begonias); T. C. Bilby (gladioli); Duncan and Davies (pot plants and cut flowers from flowering shrubs); Zenith Seed Co. (general); flax exhibit (20 sq ft); tobacco and tvmg oil, fruit (500 sqft); Miss Morrison, Mrs. Russell, Miss Gray, Shailer and Son, and Miss Farcy (florists). Several of these latter displays will cover 300 square feet each. The monthly meeting of the Wellington South Horticultural Society was 'held last evening. Mr. T. P. MDls presided. Arrangements were made for the summer show to be held next Wednesday in St; Thomas's Hall. The prizes , and trophies are numerous, and awards are made for' every section in which both adults and children are provided for. Among the trophies are the McLean Cup for roses, the Bilby challenge trophy for gladioli, Mr.' H. Bull's trophy for pansies, Vance-Vivian Cup for carnations, Philp memorial challenge trophy for vegetables, and several special prizes by Mr. R. A. Nicol, Mr. R. N. Wall and others. The children's sec-: tions are for flowers, hobbies, needlework, knitting, etc. The adult sections, (ladies) provide for decorative work,' home industries,, needlework, and fancywork. Schedules are obtainable from all seedsmen or from the committee and secretary (Mr. McLean). Entries will be received next Tuesday evening at the hall.
