MANY ATTRACTIONS
Wellington has been fortunate in tho weather experienced over the Christmas and New Year holidays, and the outdoor attractions have been enjoyed to the full. The light, occasional showers yesterday afternoon did uot spoil tho day for the thousands of holi-day-makers who thronged- the beaches and other popular resorts in. the-coun-try, and those who made the excursion trip to Pietou by the Rangatira had a most enjoyable time. There were good attendances of visitors at the golf, tennis, and bowling tourneys, and a large number of Wellington people went by train and car to the race meetings at Tauherenikau and Marton. '
The weather conditions to-day were delightful for picnicking and outdoor enjoyment generally, and as a result the city was fairly quiet. The Basin Reserve was a popular' rendezvous for cricket enthusiasts interested in the match between the Wellington Mercantile League representatives and a Wanganui. senior team. Golfers gathered in' force to witness play in. the Miraniar Golf Club's tourney, and the conclusion of the East Harbour lawn tennis tournament also attracted a lar<»e gallery. °
