NEW BISHOP ARRIVES

DIOCESE OF MELANESIA

AUCKLAND, 28th November.

The • Bishop-elect of Melanesia, the Eev. Walter Hubert Baddeley, arrived at Auckland from. Vancouver by. the Aorangi, accompanied by the Rev. R, E. Tempest, "Warden 'of the Mission: Training College at Siota, who is returning from furlough in England. Mr. Baddeley, who is to be consecrated on Wednesday in. St. Mary's Cathedral, ■was met on the wharf by Archbishop Averill, Bishop West Watson, of Christchurch, and a number of Auckland clergy and representatives of tha finance board of the Melanesian. Mis* sion. He will be the guest of Arch* bishop and Mrs.-- Averill at :Bishops--court until after the consecration. The Bishop-elect is a comparatively! young man, being barely 40 years ~o£ age. He has a distinguished record, as a combatant officer in the Great War, having enlisted in the ranks; ultimately attaining the rank of colonel. He was awarded the Military. Cross in 1917, and a bar to the cross arid the Distinguished Service Order in 191 S.
