A TANNERY PROPOSAL
An application, for permission to add a tannery to an already established fellmongery. business in Randwick was considered by the Lower Hutt Borough Council last evening. The applicants said the industry would give'permanent work to from 20 to 30 persoTis. ''.''■' The Health Department advised that it had, subject to certain conditions, given its approval, but pointed out that the location was near a .school. Councillor Patrick considered the industry should go to the industrial area. He advocated holding the matter over-for further consideration. . ' " "..'-..' The Mayor, Mr. W. T. Strand, pointed out that the fellmongery had been established many years before the industrial area was "considered, and the present proposal was no more objectionable and was merely an addition, . Councillor Anderson said it would be a great hardship:if an old established works which had never given any trouble was expected to move when it added, to its activities. " ; . . .. •■ ■ The matter was leffc in. the hands of the Bylaws Committee, and the Mayor and engineer, with'power to act.
