OBITUARY
MR- G. W. GODFREY
Mr. G. W. Godfrey, a senior officer \ in the service of the Union Company, died in a private hospital on Saturday afternoon. The.late Mr. Godfrey was born at Lithgow, Hew.Sonth Wales, on. .' Bth September, 1887, and joined the sei*-'-' vice of tKe Union Steam Ship Company on 18th November, 1912, as third ofli» ccr 7 of the Hanpiri. He was: appointed second officer of the Kato'a ■ on 19tlj April, 1915, and .chief officer of tha , Koromiko on' 16th January, 1918. Ha served as chief officer in many wellknown vessels, among which were the Komata, Mararba, Waitomb; Mapourika, Pateena, Katoa, and Wahine. Ha was acting-master of the tug Terawhiti- •• for several months in 1927, and was acting-master of the s.s. Eahika for a period in 1930. During the last two' years the late Mr. Godfrey had been, chief officer in the transpacific Yes- '" sels "Waiotapu and "Waihemo. He Was relieved for holidays from the latter vessel at the end of last month. -Ha leaves a widow and three childTcn.;
