ATHENIAN CLUB

A bright and enjoyable gathering was; held recently by a large number of members, guests, and friends of the Athenian Club at the club rooms, Pharmacy Buildings. Tho host and hostess were Mr. S. and Miss A. Eubcustein, the latter wearing a becoming frock of black georgette with diamauto trimming, and a smart coatee of tinsel brocade. Invitations had been issued to the presidents and-secretaries- of tho Wellington Commercial Travellers' and Warehousemen's Association and the Wellington Orphans' Club, who were welcomed by tho president, Mr. J. C. Burbery. The evening took the form of a "Leap Year" dance, the men being exempted from seeking partners, an arrangement which caused much merriment.

Songs, which were well received, were contributed by Miss Nita Eraine, Miss Gretta Stark, and Mr." Aubrey Beckford, the ladies receiving pretty shoulder posies. The accompaniments were played by Miss Buhenstein and Mr. A. Stark. An excellent dance programme had been arranged, and included several novel items. A "Mystery Paul Jones" and "Monte Carlo Paul Jones" were won by Miss A. 'Tobin and Mr. A. Hivon and Miss N. Wright and Mr. T. Dodson. A varied assortment of paper hats, novelties, and streamers was given out, which greatly added to the merriment. The orchestra gave a. special itom, all dressing in the most weird of female- attire in keeping with the "Leap Year" element.
