; ,S'f— I notice Mr. T. C. A. Hislop, the Mayor, has referred to me as the writer of an article published by the Wellington Ratepayers' Association. As a member of the Executive and Publicity Committees of that organisation I take my share of the-responsibility for what the article referred, to contained. Speaking apart from myself all my fellow-conimitteemen are efficient and capable men, and it is unfair that any member should be singled out for special mention in connection with jan article that in.'my judgment set out the financial.positions dealt with in a lucid and admirable manner. . If an officer of the. council supplies the Mayor^with any material for an article and the Mayor issues it as his own, no one would mention the name of'tlie , officer,- even i£-:]he. were known, as' having been 'the "writer .of .the article. That is simply ■ not done.1 /Besides the Mayor and the public of Wellington know_ that when I write for the Press I invariably sign my- own name..a: Then 1 am ready to' take praisei.or blame with equal sang-froid.—l am, etc.; .', J.D.
