PLEASANT "AT HOME"

SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA

A delightful afternoon, was [ spent at the fine home of Mr. and Mrs. Len McKenzie in;Dufferin streetyesterday, when a large number of people interest!ed in the Wellington Symphony Orchestra were entertained by Mrs. McKenzie and Mrs. Oscar Jacobsen on behalf of the women's auxiliary. The rooms were decorated with beautiful spring flowers in great abundance, and the chairs were arranged -concert fashion in a room with a grand piano, where some excellent music was given,- MissM. Castle"-sang an English and an Ifish. folk song, a German carol; and 7^,'The Water Mill" (by Vaughan. Williams).; Miss Thelma Willoughby -played a Yorke-Bowen suite and a Mazurka and Etude by Chopin; Mr. G. Tanner ('cello) "Elegie".by Massenet, "La Cinquantaine" by Matherson, and- "Papillon" by Popper. Tea waa served and Jauch enjoyed on such a cold afternoon, and then Madame-de Mauny gave I a charming talk about the Symphony Orchestra concert which is to take place next month. She played excerpts from some items .which will be presented, and- then -explained afid1 played 'portions from the Scotch Symphony (Mendelssohn), Organ Concerto (Handel), and . "Eugene Onegin" (Tsehaikowsky). >■ Mr.l Ernest Dawson- also spoke, about the workings; of the orchestra. It was all must enjoyable. Mrs. wore a handsome frock of crepe romain with cream laoeberthe, and a velvet bridge coat. Mrs. Jacobsen was in navy blue marocain and a shoulder spray of purple berries. Miss Constance Morice (hon. secretary), who had charge.,of the programme, was in a wine coloured cloth suit and a hat of'the same tone. The function was a particularly enjoyable'one. r
