Dr. 1). Vaughan. Thomas, M.A., Doctor of Music, examiner ' for Trinity College of Music, London, arrived by the Tamaroa to-day from Southampton.
Among the passengers by the T.amaroa to-day'from'Southampton was the Rev. Father B. Harrington, of Cork,-Ireland. He is to proceed to Duncftiny where ho is. to bo stationed.
. Sir Frederick Menzies, of London, a noted, authority on. public health problems, who has been' touring New Zealand, will leave Auckland for Vancouver by the Niagara next Tuesday.
The funeral of the late Mr. J. H. McDonald, son of Colonel T. \V. and Mrs. McDonald, who died, at Carterton on Monday, took place yesterday afternoon at Karoii. Among thoso present were the Hon. E. A. Ransom, the Hon. C. E. Macmillan, Mr, R. A. Wright, M.P., the Under-Secretary of Mines, the chairman, secretary, and members of the Education Board. At a meeting of the; Couiicil of the New Zealand Red Cross Society.yesterday, the Hon.'Dr.-W. E. Collins, M.L.C., was elected a life niember of the Bpoiety. In moving that the honour be conferred on Dr. Collins, Major J. Abel referred to the monetary-gi|ts.,. of that gentleman to the societj, a,nd' said that Dr. Collins had rendered' outstanding service to the organisation; The motion was seconded by Lady:Wigram' (Christchureh), and, in supporting it, Mr. N. Grant (Wellington) said ho felt sure the proposal ;,o bestow the honour upon Dr. Collins would.have, the approbation of the whole of the. Red Cross workers in the .Dominion.
