COMPRIS WEIGHTED OUT
.According to the opinion of his owner given to a Christchurch writer this week, Uimpns can be regarded as possessing little chance in the Melbourne Cup with 8.1, and it is very doubtful now if further consideration will be given to the planned trip across the Tasman. • ■Mr. P. B. Campbell, his owner, remarked that last year his weight was only ,7.5, and with that impost, he believes he would have made a bold showing had he been there. The .horse has never won at, two, miles,, .though,.he has been successful m several .good, races! during, the present season, his most notable achievement being in winning the last Wellington Cup mi record time. These performances; possibly backed by the fact that a price of £3000 was put on him when negotiations were opened with an Australian sportsman, probably caused him to be so highly rated by the Victorian handicapper. However, there is solid ground for the contention that between Compris and Concentrate, the latter, on the basis of performance and money won, has the better of things. Vet-Concentrate gets into the Melbourne Cup with 8.13, two pounds less .than Compris has been awarded.
