.Colonel.'Eleanor Swain, of .the Wellington branch .of the Salvation Army,, is a:brave woman. -.wHo!proposes to establish y.et another leaguo for the benefit of the poor folk -whoi arc still not provided "for1 sufficiently in the wintry weather..; Colonel -Swain asks : kindly people who can. manage to help a little more to join. her "Crown and Garment League," Each member will be' asked to■ make' a small annual contribution of money, to providel two new garments, also annually, and to get one member more to join 'the league. This is not asking a great deal, and the Salvation Army is1 faced -with" : such desperate need, the numbers in one centre alone requiring' help; having Increased from 800 families to 3000. And that is only ■ one centre, therefore it is not to be wondered at that the Colonel, wishes to extend her efforts into the country as :well as further in the town, if possible. She hopes for the new garments, as the old ones'wear out quickly and it will be ■a! great comfort to ■ feel that there; is a little' new store, to last' a longer time.: The Crown League is not meant to interfere . with Hhe provision of .-already worn • garments, -which are immensely useful,' But to provide some new, and also to build ;up a little fund f°L new material. .It is a definitely different ■■ effort, • and if. is hoped that people.will giv c: a little time, and with «ome new material at their command will knit or sew,for the new.babies, for mothers who need wrappers when taking ; care of: the- newly born, socks and stockings .for all ages. Colonel: Swain asks all willing;to help to communicate with Commissioner ■ John: Cunningham or herself at the Salvation Army Headquarters, Cuba street, Wellington. The new friends will be linked up with the nearest centre, and:those wishing to provide for any special home or Samaritan work will be at liberty;to do so. Correspondents are asked to mark their letters Crown and Garment League.''
