The new Art Gallery, a gift to the city by Mr. B. E. MeDougall, was officially' opened by' theVMayor yesterday. The erection of the new gallery in the Botanic Gardens was made possible by the gift, four years ago, of £25,000, by Mr. McDougall, who is a keen. collector and patron of art. The appreciation of the citizens of Christchurch of Mr. McDougall Js publicspiritedness was . expressed by' the Mayor. The donor said he was pleased that the design of the gallery was the work of a New Zealand architect.
