TUNNEL TRAFFIC

A DANGEROUS CORNER

Notices are to bo erected at the intersection of Brougham and Ellice streets, warning pedestrians of the danger from traffic at that corner. Traffic guiding lines are to be painted on the roadway, and a traffic inspector will be placed at the • intersection to control traffic whenever possible.

Councillor. J. '.Burns ..recalled that a footway had been suggested, but no mention was now made of it.

Councillor H. A. Huggins said it was a bad corner; there had been no fewer than seven accidents to children there within a few weeks. ' It would cost £870 to remedy, but that would be better than risking the lives ,of children going to the Wellington College and other schools near at hand, who had to pass the corner.

Councillor T. Forsyth said he did not think a footway would be warranted at present, and the spot could be avoided by the children using other foot-1 paths. If children were injured; it might be largely the fault of the motorists," who often turned" the-corner on two wheels., A "Go Slow—Stop!" sign would have some effect.
