Mr. and Mrs. D. Buchanan, Masterton, who have been spending a few days in Wellington, returned home yesterday.

Mrs. Percy. Baldwin, Palmerston North, returned home to-day after spending a few days in Wellington.

Mrs. Willes, Who has been visiting Wellington, returned to Christchurch on Wednesday evening.

An enjoyable gift evening was held recently at the home of Mrs. F. S. Twiss, Frandi street, in honour of Miss Nan Paisley. Dancing filled the greater part-of the evening, and was followed by the opening :of the many delightful gifts, and a very excellent supper, which was greatly appreciated.

The engagement is announced from England of Miss Ethel Beatrice Williams, youngest daughter of Mrs. J. Hunter Williams, of Roehampton, and formerly of..Wellington, to Mr. C. H. M. Waldoek (Humphrey.), son of Mr. and Mrs. Waldoek, of Colombo, Ceylon. Mr. Humphrey Waldoek was some time since called to th.c English Bar.and now holds an appointment on the staff of BrasenOsey Oxford. Miss Ethel Beatrice Williams is a grand-daughter of the late Mrs. Mary Ann Williams, so well known in Wellington as a benefactress of the Mission to Seamen. Another grand-daughter, Ruby, -was married a few yeai's ago to a, brother of Mr. Waldbck.
