For distributing handbills '-without a permit at a meeting at the Basin Eeserve, Charles Barker was to-day fined £5 and the costs, 10s, by Mr. E. Page, S.M., at the Magistrate's Court.

Small dates, bruised and crushed into solid eighteen-inch blocks and left standing on shop counters, may be all right for cooking purposes. Unfortunately, many people know of no other kind and are forced to serve these as table dates. Proper table dates, however, are large and plump, carefully packed in thin layers, so that each date remains separate from its fellows. Dates such as these, hygienically cleansed and sterilised, are- to be had at the Sanitarium Shop, 8183, Willis street, Wellington, the only shop in Wellington specialising in nuts, dried fruits, and health foods in general.— Advt.
