BOY BURNED TO DEATH

CHRISTCHURCH, This Day

Raymond King, nine-year sou of Mr. Edward King, of Gardiner's road, Harewood, was burned to death this morning when their home was destroyed by fire. .'• .

David King, aged six, is in hospital with burns on the hand and face. He was dragged through a window by a neighbour.

Two young twin sisters wore saved by the mother. :

The father was absent on* relief works at the time.

Raymond wandered from his own bedroom into his mother's and perished there.

The outbreak occurred at 1 o'clock in the morning.

A neighbour, Mrs. F. Hilton, states that she saw. flames leaping from Mrs. King's house. Mrs. King was in her nightdress, aod had two little girls with her. Then smother neighbour saved the boy David by dragging him through, a window. The other boy, Raymond,! was still inside, but it was impossible to get into the house.- The flames were fierce and' blowing: right across the door, and nothing could be done.

The dead boy's body was found in his mother's room beside the bed. He had. been ill with tonsilitis, and his mother was up late last night attending to him. It is believed he was too dazed to get out when ho was awakened by the smoke. ' ■

One of tho girls was saved -by' her mother taking her out of her burning cot and dashing from the blazing room.
