THE DEAN OF YORK

LONDON, 28th March. The Very Rev. Lionel Ford, Dean of York, died on Sunday morning while listening to a. .broadcast of a service relayed to Ms "bedside from th.c. Cathedral, ■where the Archbishop asked the congregation to' join in silent prayer for their beloved Dean.: During the prayer the Dean died. The doctor broke the news to the family while the Archbishop was preaching. The ,Very Eev. Lionel Ford was 66 years of age, and has been Dean of York for the last seven years. He was educated, at Eepton School and Cambridge University and "was a prominent golfer and cricketer. In 1887 he was president of the Cambridge Union, and from 1888 to 1901 was an assistant master at Eton. In 1895 ho was ordained, ana six years later became headmaster of Eepton. \ln 1911 he was appointed headmaster at Harrow, a post he occupied until 1925. He was a brilliant scholar and distinguished educa-< tionist. In 1904 he married and his [family consists of four sons and two daughters.
