Negotiations have been proceeding for the purchase by tho Auckland Firo Board from the New Plymouth Fire Board of an engine which has been used only onco in 15 years (states the "New Zealand Herald"). A final decision has not yet been reached. On the only occasion tho engine was brought into service during the 15 years of its possession in New Plymouth, it was not actually used, at a fire. It proceeded to Waitara at a fast pace, but it was not necessary to use the equipment on tho machine. New Plymouth has not experienced a fire sufficiently large to require the use of the engine.
