CATHOLIC AFFILIATION

SUB-COMMITTEE'S REPORT

The report of the sub-committee set up to negotiate with the Catholic Lawn Tennis Federation regarding affiliation was rear! at the meeting of the Wellington Lawn Tennis Association last evening. The report stated that Messrs. MacDuil" and Cribble met the Management Committee of the Catholic Lawn Tennis Federation and explained the benefits of affiliation lo the association. After an indication by the federation that what was really desired was merely the right to play-in authorised tournaments and lor I heir players to be "affiliated," the association's representatives tentatively suggested that the affiliation fee on the basis of a sub-association and with only the right to play in authorised tournaments he Is pel- player. After definitely indicating that the association's management committee would not in justice to its present sub-association consider less than I hat amount the matter was left to the Catholic Lawn Tennis Federation to make an offer on the lines suggested. Mr. P. Williams, on behalf of the Catholic Lawn Tennis Federation, has now stated that the most the federation was prepared to pay was an affiliation fee of 6d per player. The sub-committee therefore recommend: "(a) That the offer of'the Catholic Lawn Tennis Federation of 6d per player be not accepted; (b) that rules be put before the council of the Wellington Lawn Tennis Association giving your Management Committee power to suspend any persons committing a breach of the rules after due inquiry; (c) that the present rules relating to affiliated members playing with unaffiliated members be strictly enforced." The report was adopted. HARD COURTS CLUB. The secretary of the M'iramar Hard Courts Club wrote stating that the club desired the use of the No. 5 hard court for the balance of the 1931-32 season on the following terms: "The hard courts club to pay the W.L.T.A. the sum of 10s per member for all members over the total of 115 members (with a maximum of £15 and a minimum of £7 10s), plus afliliation fees." On the decision of the association, it was stated, the question of limitation of membership depended. At the present the membership was 114, with four further applications. It was decided to offer £20 for the use of the court for the balance of the season. The New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association wrote stating that it had been decided to make an appeal to the affiliated associations on behalf of the Hawkes Bay Association for financial assistance to the four clubs whose court, were damaged by the earthquake. The New Zealand Association would subsidise all donations, £ for £, up to one hundred pounds. It was decided to refer the request to the clubs. PLAYERS SELECTED. The following names oi players from whom teams of four are to be selected to contest the Anthony Wilding Shield and the Nunueley Casket are to be sent to the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Associa-. tion:— Anthony Wilding Shield: Ferkins, D. G. France, A. L. France, R. Howe, Lezard, O'Brien, Pearce, Roussell, Sandral, Wilson, Wilkinson. Xunneley Casket: Miss Campbell, Mrs. Dykes, Miss East, Mrs, France, Miss Move, Mrs. Melody, Miss Macasscy, Miss Xorth, Miss Nicholls, Miss Whyte, Miss Williams. ■ The players concerned in the ;inal selection, it was stated, will have to comply with the association's requirements as regards playing in interclub matches, ranking matches, and home tournaments. NOTICE TO PLAYERS. it was stated that some prominent lady players had told the secretary of the association that they did not want lo take part in any more interclub matches. It was decided to write to the ladies concerned asking if they would be prepared, to confirm in writing their verbal statement to the secretai-y that they did not want tn take part in any more interclub matches. The ladies are to'be informed that their names arc provisionally included in the list of those from whom the Nunneley Casket team is to be selected, but it was brought to" their | notice that they would have to consider that the final selection would be from those who took part in ranking matches, interclub matches, and Wellington tournaments, in preference to tournaments abroad.
