Meetings of friends and supporters of Mr. -W. Appleton, the Coalition candidate for: /Wellington South, were held at Newtown and Island Bay. last evening for the purpose,'of forming committees.

from the fight when Mr. Appleton's candidature; was announced, was elected chairman of a eommit^e of thirty at Newtown, and Mr. J.. 0. Shorland, who was chairman of Mr. 51. IP. Luckie's committee at the last, election, was elected chairman of a committee of 21 at Island Bay. .
Mr. J. Burns, the United candidate, who retired in Mr. Appleton's favour, urged his supporters to vote for Mr. Appieton. ;
