SIMON ON MAIN ISSUE

It is evident that the electorates are paying close attention to the statement of their points of view made by leaders o£ the parties in the-broadcast series. . , „ Last night Sir John Simon, head of tho newly-formed National Liberal Party, whose 39 candidates are supporting the Government, speaking on the radio, closely criticised the Labour Party's programme to bring the banking and credit systems of the country under national ownership. Ho paid a warm tribute to the Prime Minister's leadership, and said that the main issue Of the election, was to discover whether the country stood solidly behind the National Government in facing up to the crisis. Among stockbrokers this morning the "election majorities market" was strong, quotations rising^from 180 to 188 in favour of the National Government.
Feeling regarding the election influenced the stock markets favourably to-day, and leading British, funds appreciated, with war loan fives at 97.
