ELECTION CAMPAIGN
ISSUES KEENLY FELT
MEETINGS QUITE ORDERLY
NOTABLE FEATURE
(British Official Wireless.)
(Received 19th October, 11 a.m.) RUGBY, 17th October. With ten days to go before polling, and with questions of candidature definitely settled by yesterday's nominations, the election campaign is proceeding normally in all constituencies. Although the issues are keenly felt, all election meetings, with very few exceptions, have been quite orderly. A notable feature of the contest is that, whereas in the last election there were only 102 divisions in which a straight fight between two opponents look place, on this occasion the number is 409. Yesterday 59 National Government and six Labour candidates were relumed unopposed, leaving 550 members to be elected on 27th October. Of the total 1286 candidates 61 are women.
