PARLIAMENT

TO-DAY'S PROCEEDINGS

HOUSE OF REPRESENTA-

TIVES

The House of Representatives met at i.SO p.m. to-day. Largely signed petitions were presented praying against the fixation of prices by manufacturers. They wore referred to tho Industries and Commerco Committee. Mr, "W. J. Poison (Independent, Stratford) gave notice to ask the Minister of Agriculture whether ho would inform tho House of tho intcntiou of the Government regarding the reported cessation of researches into the control of noxious weeds and tho possibility of a reduction or tho cancellation of the New Zealand Government's contribution of £400 to the Imperial Institute of Entomology.

Mr. \V. El. Barnard (Labour, Napier) gave notice to ask the Prime Minister whether the Government would consider this session the proposal to extend tho period of daylight saving so as to include the Easter holidays. Mr. F. Lye (Government, Waikato) asked tho Minister of Agriculture whether, in connection with the Government subsidy on fertilisers for farmers, ho would arrange for the arrangement to be effective ns from Ist October last. The Minister (tho Hon. D. Jones) pointed out that some days before the grant was made a notice was published in the newspapers that an arrangement was likely to bo made by the Government. He was sorry tho Government could not agree to set tho date back to the Ist October. An agreement had been arrived at, and he thought the farmers had had sufficient notice of the fact. Whatever date was specified for delivery, there were bound to be some farmers who unfortunately would not obtain tho benefit. There was a general laugh amongst members when Mr. W. D. Lysnar (Independent, Gisborrie) asked for four days' leave of absence for Mr. E. F. Healy (Government, Wairau) because of urgent public business.

(Proceeding.)
