The Legislative Council opened oil Tuesday.' The Governor's Speech re« fuses the popular demand for a reduction of salaries, and balances the Budget by a small retrenchment of staffs and curtailing public works and steamer subsidies. It is expected that the! elected members at their next meeting on Monday will advocate the reduction, of Civil servants' salaries. Nn f»* creased taxation is proposed.
