A NEW GRADE

CRICKET COMPETITIONS

A new grade, consisting of the second elevens of the eight senior teams, and the Karori and Wellington College first elevens, and to be called the second grade, has been instituted by the Wellington Cricket Association. The decision was reached at the weekly meeting of the Management Committee last night, over which Mr. P. B. Broad presided, in accordance with a recommendation made by Mr. L. J. Brabin on behalf of the junior grades committee. The grade will for all purposes under the association's rules be regarded as a junior grade. Mr. Brabin reported that 58 entries had been received for the junior grades. It ■was suggested that, in addition to the special grade referred to above, the teams should be divided into five grades—junior A, 81, 82, C, and D, each of wUieh would comprise, ten teams, except the junior 82, which would contain eight! Thirteen entries had been received for the third grade, and to that number had been added one of the junior teams. The fourteen teams had been divided into two sections, in the first of which were eicht teams, with six in the second; There was considerable discussion uefore the title for the special grade was adopted, the name senior B receiving very little support. . Mr. Brabin said that it was intended to regard it more or less as a closed grade, although the committee would reserve the right to replace any of the teams at present in it. Wellington College was included in accordance with a resolution made at last week's meeting that, in the event of the school team being able to play during the holidays, they be admitted in place of Marist, the college having since signified willingness to carry, out the stipulation. •
