PROTESTS OF -DEALERS
A deputation fronxihe Music Tradeg Association and. radio .dealers in Wellington waited; on. the Bylaws^Committee of the Citj^ CPiincii yesterday to protest against "the,proposed'1 'amendment of the' fe'law.dealing with." street noises." ; ''• ._• Mr;- Ernest toaws'oh said that at a meeting of the association held yesterday a resolution was passed agreeing with the efforts of the city in any legitimate attempt to abate "kny city..'noise'- that might be reasonably construed to' be a niiisance. In the-opinion o£ the association, the proposed- amendment ■• of the bylaw was drastic, and would injure their business by preventing them as traders from .adequately demonstrating their goods_ for sale. ; They urged .'itliat the cpnimittee afford the association an: opportunity of conferring with the'^ommittee in bringing down , less drastic amendments., The small trader, said,:Mr;>Dawson, would be severely hit by the proposed bylaw, as, : owing 'to the -limited depth of his premises^'.; hf Vcoiild not demonstrate his .records, or. instruments without their'being heard upon the 'street* Several members of: the' committee referred to the use of loud 'speakers regardless of whether there were prospective customers;or■ hot.. ?.-'.:. .- t .; ■ ■'.
