ST. JAMES THEATRE.
Mctro-Goldwyn-Mayor's highly extolled piclunsiition of Peter B. Kyno's best-selling novel, Never the Twain Shall Meet," to bo shown at the St. James Theatre to-day is a glamorous romance of the clash of races, and is a gripping story which Is based on and brings out forcefully the truth of the lines, "East is East and West is West, and never the twain shall meet." It was directed by W. S. Van Dyne, veteran of Pacific Island producers, who filmed the previous successes "White Shadows or the South Seas" and "Tho Pagan." The company of players acted the piece at Tanea, and the fascinating romance has a real tang of the islands about it for the atmosphere has been perfectly caught. Conchita Montenegro, as tho half-caste siren whose charm weaves Its spell over the young British star, Leslie Howard, who was last seen here in "Outward Bound," is described as "an actress of tremendous adaptability and sparkle whose truly great performance of the coloured princess should not be missed by any picture follower capable of appreciating the best in screen acting." Leslie Howard's clean cut methods and his delightful English diction are said to be a tower of strength to the play. C. Aubrey Smith ("A Bachelor Father"), and Clyde Cook, the Australian comedian, arc included among the balance of the picked players. The short subjects of the first part of the programme will include the comedy "Blood and Thunder," "A Trip Through Ireland"" (Burton Holmes talking travelogue), and "The Metrotone News."
