MIGHT HAVE LIVED
RUSSIAN ROYAL FAMILY
LONDON, 21st July. The Russian Royal Family could have been saved from butchery and given sanctuary in England but for the objections of; the British Labour Party. This statement, says the "Daily Sketch," is made in a book which is shortly to be published. The authoress is Mrs. Harold Knowling, daughter of Sir George Buchanan, the former Ambassador to. Russia. She declares that her father. was aware of the grave danger threatening the Czar and other'members of the Royal Family, and had arranged to get them out of the country by way of Archangel, so that they might take refuge in Britain. \ The plan had to be abandoned upon the representation bf Mr. Lloyd George that the Labour Party would object to their coming. ; ~, . Mrs. Knowling declares that she is "determined to clear her'late father's name." .....
Forced by the revolution to abdicate, the Czar was first sent to Tsirskoe Selo, then to Tobolsk, and finally to Ekaterinburg. There, on Kolchak 's advance, it is believed that the local Soviet caused him.to be shot, along with his wife, his son, and his four daughters, on 16th July, 1918. : : • •- ■■:■;. : '
