NAPIER'S CENTRE
NEW CIVIC BLOCK
New plaus and drawings for the construction of the Napier City Council's block of buildings on the Market Beservo have now been completed, and revised tenders aro being called for the work, says tho "Daily Telegraph." Tho building will' cover half the block bounded by Hastings, Tennyson, Emerson, and Market streets. The total floor area of two floors will bo 19,300 square feet, and the cubic space enclosed 279,600 cubic feet. Although strong as originally- designed, when tenders wero first received, the steel frame will now be made even stronger by tho introduction of reinforced concrete spandrel walls and bracing partitions, carried right through the building in both directions from foundations to roof level. A total of 140 tons of steel will bo used in the framework, bolted together with four tons of rivets. Tho wire lacing round the steel frame work, increasing the grip of the concrete, would make a cow-proof fence two miles long, and tho reinforcing, rods in the ■wall and floor panels, placed end to end, would reach from Napier to Dannevirke.
