THE NEW TUNNEL
(To the Editor.)
Sir, —I wish to protest against the loug-delayed opening of the new tunnel. When the. contract was given to Messrs. Hansford and Mills the tunnel was due to be opened on Ist June. The contractors finished their work nearly two months ago, but the work of paving the roadway has not yet been started. What is the use of such a tunnel which is not open to motorists or pedestrians? Many people who live on the other side of the tunnel would walk to town and thus save unnecessary tram fares, and many a motorist would make a quick trip to town instead of having, as it were, to go to the other end of Wellington and thus waste petrol—l am, etc.,
