"AROUSING ANIMOSITY"
"I would like to refer to tlie attempt to arouse a feeling of animosity against the banks and financial houses," said Mr. J. M. Niall at the recent meeting of Goldsbroiigh, Mort and Co., held in Melbourne. "It has become the practice of a certain type of politician, . for propaganda' purposes, to blame these, institutions as the main cause of all our troubles. It is not only unjust but distinctly injurious to attack our financial institutions.
"The added burden thrown on the banks by the default of the New South Wales, Government, followed by the closing of the doors of the Government Sav-ings-Bank of that State,,and the increased demands from all Governments and all quarters, .has been readily and wisely handled by. the banks, and the. whole community is greatly indebted to them and to the financial houses for the suppbrt that has been forthcoming through this most troublous time."
