Dinesh Chandra Gupta, a young Bengali, was executed at dawn for th« murder of Colonel N. S. Simpson, Ben' gal Inspector-General of Prisons, oil Bth December. .Two other Guptas who were accomplices in that outrage committed suicide. . Chandra Gupta alsoj attempted to kill himself, but recov» ercd. Gatherings of protest against; the execution were held throughout} the city.
