STATEMENT BY PREMIER
FRANCE'S SACRED RIGHTS
NOT ALLOWED TO LAPSE
PARIS, 7th July
The agreement represents a com-1 promise, which both France and the United States proclaim to be satisfactory, after ten days of negotiation. The Prime Minister of France, M. Laval, told journalists that tho agreement constitutes a, hard sacrifice, but the Government wishes to maintain Franco-American solidarity, which is osesntial to international co-oporation. It would be noticed, he said, that the Government had not allowed France's sacred rights in regard to i reparations to lapse. Mr. Andrew Mellon, United States Secretary of State, in a statement today said that the conversations had been most agreeable. "We were always confident of reaching a final agreement, "he added.
