LIGHTNING STRIKES HOUSES
SNOW IN THE SOUTH

WANGANUI, This Day
A terrific thunderstorm burst to tho Bouth-west of Wanganui at 9.40 o'clock last night. Brilliant lightning flashes were followed by peals of thunder which shook the ground and alarmed
many residents,
Heavy rain, which had been falling since yesterday morning, changed to hail and sleet, and then resumed with redoubled intensity. The thunderstorm caused considerable interruption to tho lighting system and telephones. Lightning struck a wireless aerial at. the residence of Mr. D. Hays, Fox road, and shattered all the windows in the rear portion of the house. It also shattered an electric meter in the house next door and windows at the rear of Copley's store adjacent.' A report of damage by lightning comes from Wanganui East. The residence of Mr. J. Hay was struck at 2 a.m., when the house rocked in an alarming manner. The radio set was blown to pieces, crockery was shattered, and a large hole was blown in the front garden. Mud was. spattered in all directions.
