SAILORS' FRIEND SOCIETY
Sunday was a busy day at the Sailors Friend Society, and large congregations were addressed in church and institute. Mesdames Good and Mornsby took the organ and piano, and Messrs. Parsons, Parry Hooker, and Weston the instrumental parts. Messrs. Stock and Moore were the preachers for the day. The tea was presided over by the ladies ot tst. Giles's Church. The cold wind and wet grass yesterday led to the King's Birthday picnic being held in the institute, where a series of happy events were carried out. Lunch, tea, and supper were served by willing workers led by Mrs. J. Moore. Votes of thanks were tendered to the many donors of gifts. The prize-win-ners in the day's events were Mrs. Williams, Messrs. Greves, Grell, Downmg, Nelson, Cox, Woodwarth, Clenick, Cunningham, Anderson, Han-ops, Wheeler, Jones, Tangiiti, Martin, and Ricard. At 8 p.m. Mr. Leigh Hunt gave a lecture on "Scott's Last Polar Expedition," illustrated with slides, shown by Mr. Bland.' The committee. and the missioner- thank all those who helped "to make the day the success it was^.
